Kensington, formerly known as North End, is a district in the historic parish of Fulham, Hammersmith and Fulham, London, England. However, it was a failure. The canal was eventually filled in, and in the mid-nineteenth century it was converted into a railway, while the stream was transformed into a sewer. With it came progressive urbanization, attracting numerous developers such as Gibbs and Flew.Aside from the problem of unsold properties, there was also the issue of accessibility. A bridge across the rails was required, but despite Gibbs and Flew's efforts to fund it, it resulted in their bankruptcy and the breakup of the partnership in 1885. Following that, Gibbs and Flew ran separate enterprises in Fulham with some success.Following Queen Caroline's death, the Margravine auctioned the house's belongings, then had the property razed and the grounds sold for industrial development. Following the area's catastrophic bomb and landmine destruction during WWII, the Gunter estate dedicated Gwendwr Gardens, originally the Cedars Lawn Tennis Club, to the public as a tribute to those who died.Other Kensington projects include the Lillie Bridge Depot, the Earls Court Exhibition pleasure gardens, the Royal Household, the Great Wheel at Earl's Court, and the push for a bridge from neighbouring Earl's Court into Kensington.
