Notting Hill is a neighborhood in West London, England that is part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is known as a multicultural and cosmopolitan area that holds the annual Notting Hill Carnival and the Portobello Road Market. Since around 1870, Notting Hill has been linked with artists. Throughout much of the twentieth century, the large buildings were divided into multi-occupancy rentals, bringing European, Caribbean, African, Indian, Arab, Asian, South American, and other immigrants to the region in the 1950s.The origin of the name "Notting Hill" is unknown, however an early variant occurs as Knottynghull in the Patent Rolls of 1356. According to an 1878 classic, Old and New London, the name comes from a Kensington property named "Knotting-Bernes," "Knitting-Barnes," or "Nutting-barns." meaning many years, it was considered that the "Nott" half of the name was derived from the Saxon personal name Cnotta, with the "ing" part usually recognised as deriving from the Saxon meaning a group or settlement of people. In the early nineteenth century, the region surrounding Pottery Lane was utilized to make bricks and tiles from the heavy clay excavated in the area. On Walmer Road, there is the sole surviving 19th-century tile kiln in London. Pig farmers settled into the region after being pushed out of the Marble Arch neighborhood. Avondale Park was constructed in 1892 from a former pig slurry region known as "the Ocean" as part of a broader clean-up of the area known as the Potteries and Piggeries. The Ladbroke Estate, designed by James Weller Ladbroke and Thomas Allason, had a big central circus surrounded by radial streets and garden squares, or "paddocks." Allason's most persistent concept was the building of huge private community gardens, dubbed "pleasure grounds" at the time, surrounded by terraces and/or crescents of dwellings. These shared garden squares continue to offer much of the area's appeal to the wealthier residents. The Hippodrome racecourse was created in 1841, but it failed due to a public right of way and the heavy clay of the surrounding area. After the racetrack closed in 1841, development on the land proceeded, and houses were built. The crescent-shaped roads that round the hill, such as Blenheim Crescent, Elgin Crescent, Stanley Crescent, Cornwall Crescent, and Lansdowne Crescent, were constructed over the circular racecourse courses. St John's church, built in the early English style in 1845, lies at the summit of the hill and served as the focal point of the Ladbroke Estate development.Notting Hill, a historic area in central London, previously housed upper-middle-class and rich individuals. The houses were huge, but they did not attract the wealthiest Londoners, who preferred to reside in Mayfair or Belgravia, which were closer to the city centre. Instead, they targeted the upper middle class, who could live in Belgravia-style at a reduced cost. Several important people were born in Notting Hill, including John Galsworthy, Thomas Hardy, Arthur Machen, and Charles Booth. We are sure that you will enjoy your trip to W11 Notting Hill.
