There appears to have been a brief attempt by Blades and Edwards to work together to develop the entire region as a less extravagant version of John Nash's ideas in Regent's Park, prior to the two estates taking on their very distinct characteristics. Dr. Thomas Edwards (1775?–1845) was a legal writer who attended Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he earned his LL.B. and LL.D. in 1800 and 1805, respectively. He was married to Mercy Cressingham. Later on, he was accepted as an advocate at Doctors' Commons and became a Fellow of his college. As a Justice of the Peace for Surrey, he took an interest in social issues and served on the Lambeth Church Building Committee, which oversaw the construction of the parish's four "Waterloo" churches.
